Three natural foods for Diabetes in Ayurveda treatment.

As per Ayurvedic Science, Diabetes develops as a result of imbalances in doshas viz. Kapha, Pitta, and Vata – the three mind-body constitutions. Among the various types of Diabetes, the Type 2 is caused by Kapha Dosha. Hence, Ayurvedic treatment for this type is focused on diet and lifestyle alterations.

Yoga, massages, fasting, diet, and herbs constitute the Ayurvedic treatment for diabetes. Some Ayurvedic practitioners offer certain cleansing programs for controlling glucose levels in the blood.

Medicinal Plants and Herbs used in Ayurvedic treatments include bitter gourd, Belpatras, Triphala, Vijaysar Churna, Amalaki Churna, the bark of Banyan tree (ficus bengalensis), Amla (Emblica Officinalis), Seeds and leaves of Jamun (Eugenia jambolana), Cinnamon powder, Methi Seeds (Fenugreek Seeds).

Apart from these, leaves of Neem, Tulsi, and Bel (Bael) among others are also used in Ayurvedic treatments for Diabetes. All these contain high amounts of antioxidants. Therefore, taking them in the empty stomach will help reduce sugar level in blood.

Ayurvedic Foods for Diabetes

Bitter Gourd Juice: Containing high content of antioxidants and bio-active compounds like polypeptide-p, Bitter Gourd is considered as one of the best natural remedies for Diabetes. Diabetic patients need to take bitter gourd juice, about 30 ml, in the empty stomach in the early morning.

Neem, Tulsi, and Belpatras: You can also make another fine healthy drink from the leaves of Neem, Tulsi, and Belpatras. Take 10 each leaf and squeeze them to get the extract. Mix the extract well and take it with water. Similar to bitter gourd juice, this also has to be taken in the empty stomach and hence take it in the early morning.

Bel (Bael) Leaves: Bel (Bael) Leaves is another natural medicine. As it also has antidiabetic characteristics, diabetic patients should consume the extract mixed with black pepper. You can also take this along honey. Mix 15 ml of juice with 5g of honey. This mixture of honey and juice can be consumed three times a day as medicine for diabetes mellitus.
