There are various types of diabetic neuropathy. They include Autonomic neuropathy, Peripheral neuropathy, and Mononeuropathy.

Symptoms of Autonomic Neuropathy

  • Hypoglycemia Unawareness: The patients remain unaware that his or her blood sugar levels are very low. This symptom or lack of awareness about blood sugar levels is otherwise called hypoglycemia unawareness.
  • Bladder problems: Bladder problems include urinary tract infections or urinary retention or incontinence.
  • The patients may face uncontrolled diarrhea, constipation or both.
  • Diabetics may feel gastro paresis (slow stomach emptying). This may cause nausea, vomiting, and bloating. It also leads to loss of appetite.
  • People affected with Autonomic neuropathy struggle to swallow food.
  • Abnormal sweating: Sweating can go either side- increase or decrease.
  • Problem with controlling body temperature is another major symptom.
  • A diabetic may face problems with the way eyes adjust from light to dark.
  • Patients may have an increased heart rate even when they are resting.
  • Blood pressure may drop sharply after sitting or standing for a while. It may cause the patients to faint or feel light headed.
  • Erectile dysfunction and vaginal dryness, decreased sexual responses are some of its symptoms related to sexual life.
