Arthritis refers to inflammation of one or more joints, leading to pain, swelling, stiffness, and reduced range of motion. Common forms include osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint condition associated with wear of cartilage, and rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune inflammatory disorder. Symptoms often worsen with age and can significantly affect mobility and quality of life.
In Ayurveda, joint disorders are largely correlated with aggravated Vata dosha (Sandhigata Vata) and, in inflammatory forms, the involvement of Ama (toxins) and Pitta, as seen in Amavata.
